Do You Want To Build A Snowman!

Before you react with either immense excitement or utter disdain, this article has nothing to do with snow queens, ice salesmen, or snowmen who like warm hugs…well, it does have to do with a snowman that was created, but not by the magic of a top hat.

This time of year gets many of us really excited.

One of my favorite Christmas shows is the classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. However, its sequel “It’s Christmastime again, Charlie Brown!” is probably not as well known.

In this sequel, we find a typical barrage of vignettes of our beloved characters.

One scene pictures Peppermint Patty, the sandal wearing female athlete, trying to get out of her Christmas break reading assignment. She comes up with several excuses about why she can’t or shouldn’t read the book, but one excuse in particular caught my attention.

Peppermint Patty is outside building a snowman and is confronted by her friend Marcie. Peppermint Patty explains that she has to build this snowman because “[She is] its creator. It’s [her] duty to give it life!” (The videos below comes from getyarn.io)

This clip reminded me of God and the act of creation. I wonder what else was going on when God created the Earth that the Bible does not tell us.

Did any of the heavenly beings try to offer input? Did God ask for any other opinions? Of course, this is simply speculation, but regardless of the context I can totally picture God telling the heavenly beings surrounding Him that He had to create humans because no one else would or could.

He is our creator and it was Him who gave us life!

Literally, he gave Adam life. He breathed life into Adam’s nostrils and he went from being a model of clay, lifeless and vacant to a walking, talking, real person. Sound familiar?

Psalm 100 verse 3 tells us, “Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.”

God did not create us because He had nothing else to do or was simply bored!

He wanted to create us. He wants us. He wants a relationship with each and every one of us.

Many people today think God doesn’t exist or if He does exist He is distant and uninvolved. And He certainly doesn’t care about what happens to us.

However, the truth is, God is very much out there and He is personal, active, and interested in us.

The Gospel message begins with this truth. He created us to be WITH Him.

God did not create us to wander aimlessly through this world to then die and disappear forever. He created us to be in relationship with Him now, and one day, to literally be in His presence forever.

God is our creator. It is Him who gave us, and continues to give us, life. As we begin a new year, let us not forget this fact.
