There’s A Time For Everything

Many years ago my dad, Billy Hutchinson, a pastor and ministry leader of over two decades, began writing a column for a small-town newspaper, The Brunswick Times-Gazette.

His column connected the truth of God’s Word with real life situations, observations, and experiences. His article was known as “I Was Just Thinking…” and reached people throughout the United States and the world.

Two years ago my dad passed away. While I know he is with Jesus, his passing has been difficult for my family and me. Life is certainly not the same after the loss of a loved one, especially your dad.

It just doesn’t seem real. There are days when it still doesn’t.

It is also hard because of the impact his passing had on ministries he has led and participated in over the years. I wasn’t sure I would do anything to continue any of his ministry efforts.

However, after months of thinking and prayer, I am convinced that God has called me to continue this particular ministry. My prayer is that the relaunch of this article will encourage you, as well as challenge you, in your relationship with Jesus Christ.

The untimely passing of my father and the calling to relaunch this article reminds me of King Solomon’s reflection in Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verses 1-2. “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.”

Here, Solomon reflects on the temporary, fleeting nature of life. He infers that true wisdom is demonstrated in how we live this life despite its brevity and uncertainty.

Life throws a lot at us and we can easily become discouraged and overwhelmed. However, regardless of our circumstances and situations, we can be encouraged by the grace of God and consequently share that grace with everyone we meet.

There is a time for everything.
