Too Good To Be True?

Updated: Nov 17, 2024

Have you ever heard the phrase, “It is too good to be true”?

I'm sure many of you have, and recently, I was reminded of this simple but powerful truth.

Recently, I was working on a project where I was trying to learn more about a particular feature. I searched online for the topic and was presented with numerous results.

When I finally found an article that I thought would work, I started reading it.

Then it happened!

I saw the ad on the side of the website for this “free course” that was supposed to make me even more proficient and create a better overall product. I was hooked.

Before you knew it, I had signed up. This led to a week and a half process of back and forth with the company which caused me frustration, anger, and even resentment.

I wanted to just forget the whole thing and move on. This “free course” had led me down a road of craziness that was too good to be true.

For full disclosure, at the time of writing this, I am still trying to figure it out. We have made a lot of progress, but still not where we should be.

Anyway, this whole event made me think: this shouldn't be so hard.

And I think many of us approach faith in God the same way – it shouldn't be so hard.

But is it?

I am reminded of the passage in Romans chapter 10 verse 9:

If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Doesn't sound too difficult, does it? Almost sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?

The truth is, unlike in my case above, it is that simple.

People all over the world try and make God, Jesus, salvation, and eternity way too hard.

God created us. We rejected Him (we call this sin). That rejection separates us from God. That rejection cannot be overcome by our good deeds and actions.

However, God gave us the way back to Him. He came down to earth in the form of a man (Jesus) and died on the cross to forgive us for that rejection. To demonstrate that He really does have the power to forgive us and restore us, Jesus rose from the dead.

And whoever believes this and puts their faith and trust in Him (Jesus' death and resurrection) alone will be reunited with God in Heaven for eternity.

One more note, this future life in Heaven is not the only thing we can be assured of. Life with Jesus starts NOW and lasts forever. He wants us to live life here the way He originally intended it – which was perfect.

Almost sounds too good to be true.

But it is true. The only catch is that you have to make that decision to either put your faith in Him or not. He gives you the choice.

I encourage all of you to remember this simple, yet powerful, truth.

If you already have put your faith in Jesus live into it with confidence and assurance that He is there with you.

If you haven't put your faith in Jesus, I encourage you to re-read those lines above or watch this video as a reminder/explanation that God loves you more than you can possibly imagine, and really, all He wants is for you to love Him back.

Anyway, I was just thinking...
