As a regular at our local Mexican restaurant, I’ve witnessed plenty of amusing moments. But on a recent visit, one particular scene caught my attention.
A little girl, no older than five, burst from the back dining area and hurried toward the bathroom. Judging by her pace, you’d think it was an emergency—but I wasn’t convinced.
Her mother followed shortly after to check on her. As she knocked on the door, the entire restaurant overheard the child’s enthusiastic response: “I’m on the toilet!”
The mom glanced around, clearly embarrassed, and gently told her daughter that such announcements weren’t necessary for the whole restaurant to hear.
The best part? A few minutes later, the mother took her own trip to the restroom. The little girl, now seizing her chance, marched over and called out, “Mom, are you on the toilet!?”
I can only imagine what the mother was thinking.
That moment reminded me of Romans 1:16:
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile."
This little girl had no hesitation about stating exactly what she was doing—for all to hear. And yet, how often do we hesitate when it comes to sharing our faith?
We’re told it’s not the right time, not the right place, or that we’re not knowledgeable enough. Children, however, don’t filter their excitement—they simply speak. But as people grow older, they tend to either suppress their honesty or, on the flip side, become blunt to the point of rudeness (and blame it on age).
Paul, in his letter to the Romans, showed no hesitation in proclaiming the Gospel. A Jew preaching to Gentiles? Many likely wondered, Who does this guy think he is? Yet, he persisted.
Likewise, we shouldn’t be afraid to boldly share the good news of Jesus.
If a child can proclaim the truth without shame, why can’t we?
Anyway, I was just thinking...
